Drake discusses "Over"

The name is 6S (pronounced "Success"). I gets busy. Currently residing in the city of Cleveland, Ohio but born and raised about 30 miles south in Akron.-Me being from Columbus and seeing the music scene in Cleveland, it looks like it's really blowing up as far as artists gettin shine and doing big things. What is it that you feel makes you stand out amongst the crowd?
Each artist that's making noise is bringing something different to the table. Being a female is automatically going to make me stand out b/c most of the artists here are men. But I'd like to think it has a lot to do with my attitude. I don't really care about what's popular and I don't really care about TRYING to make people accept what I'm doing. I just make music that feels good to me and fortunately people seem to appreciate it.- What made you choose the name 6S (pronounced Success) as your identity?
Success is the goal of any mission. The definition of success may vary depending on the individual but everyone wants to attain success. *cue Drake & Trey Songz*- What is your definition of 6S (Success)?
Success the goal: To connect with the masses through my experiences and my stories. 6S the person: A rebel with a cause.- Speaking of successes, I know that you expect your new mixtape "Bey Knows Best" *FAV song "Not Legal" (Ego Parody)* to do well as far as downloads and getting buzz, tell us a little bit about the title and concept behind it...
Way before the Beyonce-mania, I was THE biggest Destiny's Child fan. That was my teenage obsession. As I grew older, I grew from wanting to know everything about the group/be like the group/dress like the group to learning to appreciate the ladies for what they bring to music and media.
I was up in Detroit this summer for the "I Am...." tour when I got the idea. Beyonce is such a dynamic performer....she's the ultimate entertainer. Right there in that moment, I felt like a kid again....I was in awe. So I wanted to do a project that somehow used her as a theme. Not necessarily an ode but I wanted to put my twist on some of her work.
Right now, there's the link to download the Bey Knows Best mixtape. Eventually, we'll have reviews of the project, performance footage, video clips etc.- In your music you talk about a lot of the fun times that you have but in the song "Flaws" you broke it down and let people know that as that shouldn't be able to tell already, that you're human too. What motivated you to re-create that particular song?
I've wanted to do a song like Flaws for a while now. One thing about me is I've always been able to take criticism well (even when it's not so constructive) b/c I know where I deviate from the social norms. Some artists (and people in general) tried to hide aspects of themselves to be more accepted. Not me. I am who I am. My friends tell me I'm weird. My parents tell me I'm "different". I know I'm not perfect. And I'm okay with that.- Now I listened to your last EP "The Boys and Girls Guide to Getting Down" as well as "Bey Knows Best" and I follow you on twitter and you seem to be a really cool person, tell us about a weekend in the life of 6S...
A weekend with me could lead to ANYTHING. There's no such thing as a typical weekend. This past weekend I was bored so I shot down to Miami for a couple of days. When you're dealing with me, you have to expect the unexpected.- I hear that you have a show on Jan 10th at The Grog Shop in Cleveland... I've always wanted to know how do you prepare for shows, as far as rehersals or backstage? And who are you rockin with...
Yeah I'm really excited about this show. I'm a fan of all of the artists on the bill so to be a part of the lineup is pretty dope. Preparation start with the music. I try to match my playlist with the crowd. I like to throw at least one twist in there. I don't use a live band right now so there's not really a need for a ton of rehearsal. Once I get the set and the vibe together, I like to do a few runs the week of the show. I don't want to be TOO rehearsed when I'm on stage. I want it to be natural. I don't want the crowd to feel like they're watching me perform. I want them to feel like they're observing me enjoying my music and I invite them to do the same.
*Random Question* I've been wondering for some time now... What's the craze over corned beef sandwiches from Cleveland!?!*(Sidenote) 6S is on the bill with Mike Posner at Grog Shop in Cleveland ticket info here... http://www.grogshop.gs/tickets.html
I've actually never had a corned beef sandwich. It's on my list of "to dos"- Is there anyone in your life musically or personally that inspired you to be an artist? If so who or what inspired you...
I draw a lot from my every day life. Conversations I have. Things that I go through. People that I meet. My music is really a reflection of my life and the people in it. I get inspired by artists that thing outside of the box. I've really moved away from listening to mainstream artists...I like music that's hard to categorize. Dope music begets more dope music.- If you could go anywhere in the world to perform and live it up, where would that be and why?
If I could perform anywhere in the world and SHUT IT DOWN, it would have to be at home. Like either the Pavilion in Akron, the Q in Cleveland, or Blossom Music Theater which is like halfway between the two. This is the place where I've lived most of my life. So to reach the pinnacle and come back to take it over...even if it's only for one night.- So in 5 years what do you want out of life, and where do you see your career?
In 5 years, I want to be living out my dreams and still dreaming of living out even bigger dreams. That's all I can ask for. Without dreams, what's the point?
